By the time the story starts, they're basically rivals. Evil Former Friend: He and Bruce used to be friends, but drifted apart due to Richard constantly taking advantage of Bruce.Canon Foreigner: He's not appeared in any other Batman property before.Combat Pragmatist: He's not above using cheap tricks to get an edge in a fight, such as pretending to yield to Bruce in a boxing match just to get a cheap shot.Badass Normal: He's actually a fairly good boxer and fighter.Teen Genius: She's only 18 but is incredibly intelligent, and is even the Nightwalkers's tech expert.Peek-a-Bangs: Her long hair is often covering one her eyes, giving her an alluring and mysterious look.Orphan's Ordeal: Her mother died in prison when she was ten, and her father is never mentioned.When she ends up helping Bruce one time too many, her brother turns on her and shoots her. In Love with the Mark: Ends up falling in love with Bruce, even though he's one of the biggest targets of the Nightwalkers.Gadgeteer Genius: She mentions having taking apart computers since she was a kid, and is the person who does the tech for the Nightwalkers.This is partially true, but she ended up falling for him for real along the way. Femme Fatale: She flirts with Bruce quite often, and Detective Dracoon fears she's using her feminine wiles to manipulate him.Faking the Dead: The ending reveals she actually survived being shot, and escaped police custody, fleeing to another country, while giving away all the money the nightwalkers stole to charity.The Dragon: She's the second in command of the Nightwalkers, only behind her brother.Disappeared Dad: Madeleine's mother died in prison, but her father is never even mentioned.Dark Action Girl: She's just as good in a fight as the rest of the Nightwalkers.Consummate Liar: Dracoon thinks she is one and Bruce himself notices most of what she tells him are half-truths.The Corrupter: Detective Dracoon thinks she is a bad influence on Bruce.Subverted in that it's not just a tic, but it's how she's sending secret messages to the Nightwalkers. Awesomeness by Analysis: She could tell that Bruce was wearing a wire the second time he talked to her just by the way stood and the way he spoke.By the end it's made clear she wants to be a Karmic Thief who steals from the rich but isn't on board with the killings her brother has been doing. Ambiguously Evil: For most of the story is ambiguous how evil and malicious she actually is.She's 18, accused of three horrible murders, and plays mindgames with Bruce.
